Welcome to the
Philani Oral Health Foundation!

The Foundation was established in 2007, with the objective to attract funds for the operation of a dental health project in the township of Khayelitsha outside Cape Town in South Africa.

This dental health project involves the dissemination of basic oral hygiene know-how to preferably children and their mothers / caretakers. To facilitate and support this learning procedure, the Foundation is also responsible for the running of a dental clinic. This dental clinic has been built and equipped by funds provided by Rotary.

The tasks of disseminating basic oral hygiene information as well as the running of the dental clinic are supervised and supported by the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Western Cape, the Institute of Odontology, University of Göteborg as well as by Region Västra Götaland in Sweden.

The activities of the Foundation are conducted in close cooperation with the Philani Nutrition Center, a well established child health and nutrition organisation in Khayelitsha and the dental clinic is situated in Philani´s main building.
